The Problem

Breedon Aggregates is the leading construction materials group in Great Britain and Ireland. Their Hope Valley site is Britain’s largest cement plant and spillway improvements were required at two lagoons within the plant.

Removing and reinstating the spillways using in-situ concrete casting techniques, alongside gabion wall construction, required significant environmental management to effectively sustain Breedon’s sustainable vision and aims.

Employing local workforces and suppliers

Employing local people and using local suppliers, we providing added social value for Breedon, whilst ensuring safe, efficient delivery to a high-quality standard. Working collaboratively with design specialists during Early Contractor Involvement stage, we developed informed construction methodologies, agreed pre-start based on the specialist environment within the live quarry. Safety is paramount, particularly when working in a live, operational environment with a large number of vehicle movements. Safe systems of work, effective supervision and ongoing training allowed this project to be completed with zero health & safety incidents.
