Following flooding of the gym building and school grounds, we were appointed by Severn Trent Water to install flood mitigation measures at Littleover Community School. Works included construction of a 3.5m deep wet well, new valve chamber and kiosk.
The school teaches 11-18 year olds and remained operational throughout the scheme. This required significant planning, communication and phasing to maintain the safety of students and faculty, alongside minimising disruption.
Working with Littleover Community School and Severn Trent Water Project Managers, our Contracts Manager developed a robust phasing plan considering all factors including; material deliveries, peak times, vehicle movements, pedestrian access / egress and noisy operations.
Effectively liaising with staff and students, our Stakeholder Liaison Officer communicated our key works programme, milestones and traffic management proposals ensuring full understanding throughout.
To maintain the safety and security of the site, all works were securely fenced off at all times, warning notices placed around works areas and no tools/equipment left unattended at any time.
Directly employing our entire workforce on a PAYE basis allowed us to allocate personnel with the necessary skills, knowledge, ability, training and experience required to complete this scheme ‘right first time, every time’. With experience working in school environments, our personnel were aware of the restrictions, hazards and specific mitigation measures to ensure the safety of students. We were praised on our commitment to the works whilst effectively minimising disruption throughout.
